M/V JEAN ANNE RAMP

REQUIREMENTS

TIME Marine was commissioned to analyze the M/V Jean Anne stern ramp for a ro/ro operation consisting of a generator and turbine whose each respective weight (combined with the SPMT carrying them) exceeded the ramp’s 100 mt rated capacity by 54 tons.

SOLUTION

TIME Marine created a full 3d computer model of the ship’s ramp, including the hinge and partial deck structure. The model was used to determine the ramp’s performance under the anticipated loads from the turbine and generator. The following points list the concluding project effort:

  • The FEA analysis confirmed the most suitable location for load supports between the dock and
    ramp.
  • Load transitioning structural brackets were added to the outboard ends of the upper ramp
    portion.
  • Approval for the increased load was obtained from DNV (Det Norske Veritas).
